1. ambient trance:
   not just trance, though. anything calm and soothing. like opening up a can of 4am solace. i love the sound of a woman's voice over a soft, rhythmic melody. i've got a song that reminds me nearly every major moment of my life, and tracks like these make up a good chunk of that list.
2. blackbox:
   back when i thought i was all 1337, i was really into coding and linux and security. i was so into it i actually got a good number of my buddies hooked on it. now, three of them are pursuing degrees in that field, while i'm toying around with money markets and having fun building businesses from the ground up. blackbox was a window manager for linux, and some of the best laughs i've ever had were in #blackbox on irc.debian.org. laugh all you want, but i've made more lasting friends on the internet than in real life.
3. clubbing in europe:
   well, this summer i'll finally get the chance. this is more about the music and the feeling, rather than the actual locale. fortunately i've had these experiences in montreal, toronto, and hell, even ottawa, and they've all been memorable. the sound of a familiar bassline on a meyer sound system, the lights underneath the floor glowing blood-red, submerging the entire club in a frenzy you can only get when you mix with that type of crowd.
4. cryptography:
   for a long time, this was my passion. i loved the purity of it. that's what i wanted to do. i won't lie that certain men by the names of goldberg, schneier, stephenson and singh didn't have anything to do with this interest, though. eventually i realized what working in this field would mean, and decided to go elsewhere.
5. ermenegildo zegna:
   i like quality. not just in clothes, but i believe that quality is infusion of sincerity into your work, and that, ultimately, is the only worthy measure of civilization. through passion and the active pursuit of betterment, culture flourishes. at least, that's the reason i give my girlfriend when i buy $1000 shoes.
6. leo tolstoy:
   everyone should read war and peace.
7. mont blanc:
   this is not in reference to the pen maker, but instead to the snow peak in quebec. i love skiing, though i only went once this winter, after getting a season pass.
8. paris:
   there's a contrived explanation for this. something to do with my work, but i don't wanna get into it on here.
9. rise ashen:
   my big brother alix gave me his first album, dubbed 'urban fugues.' there was a track on there - drive to capri - that really made me want to drive to capri. i love music like that, that can convey feelings and images with just a melody and a title. vivaldi's four seasons is an example. i bet even if you're an eskimo and never knew above zero temperatures in your whole life, you'd still feel like it's july on lake como when listening to vivaldi's 'summer.'
